Recession Reality. Hotels Groan As Occupancy Drops By 35%


Nigeria’s hospitality sector has been hit hard by the economic slowdown, with occupancy rates in hotels falling below 35 per cent this year due to the contraction of economic activities in the country. Findings by THISDAY showed that hardest hit were the four and five-star hotels in Lagos and Abuja, where bookings have dropped significantly as individuals and companies now prefer to book rooms at cheaper boutique hotels due to the economic crunch. FIRS Shuts Bolingo Hotel Over N24M Debt


The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) on Wednesday sealed the Bolingo Hotel, Abuja, over suspected tax matters. A source at the FIRS said the measure was part of the deliberate action to shore up government revenue drive, especially in the area of recovery of tax revenues from defaulting organizations. Eko Hotels Owner, Gilbert Chagoury, Slaps US Government with Lawsuit Over Visa Ban


Billionaire businessman and owner of Eko Hotels in Lagos, Gilbert Chagoury, has filed a Privacy Act Violation lawsuit against the US government for banning him from entering America. We earlier reported that Chagoury was barred from entering the United States and his visa request denied based on alleged links with a terrorist group.
