Is the big day fast approaching? Are you in great shape for those all-important wedding photos? If not, Marisa and Virgil from The Workout Club Ibiza are here to help you by giving you seven steps to get you looking your best on the day!
We all know that there are no shortcuts to a beautiful body. There are no magic pills for weight loss – you need to put in the work to get things done. With these seven steps we are going to help you get you looking and feeling your best for your wedding day photos!
Set your fitness goals
We’re sure that you’ve heard this all before, but you can’t reach your goal if you don’t know where you’re heading. It’s important to know what you want to achieve so you can break it down into small achievable steps.
Jim Rohn once said, “Don’t let your learnings lead to knowledge but let your learnings lead to action.” So that being said, let’s start by taking your first action. If, for example, you’d like to lose 5kg and tone up your body for your photos, that will be your end goal. Stop reading for a second and write down what you want to achieve. Now we can begin to work on breaking down your end goal into smaller sub goals
The power of visualisation
Don’t be scared off by the word visualisation. We just want you to start using your most powerful asset in your quest to reach your goal – your brain. Just write on a visible space, for example your mirror, your ideal weight, or put up a picture of how you would like to look in your wedding photos. Your brain will process this every time you see it and it will help you in difficult times. Go and find your place and get it up.
Find your support team
This is the fun part. All you have to do is find people who are close to you and ask for their help. Their job is to come along with you to training group sessions, or motivate you when you are feeling down. You just share your goals with your bridesmaids, friends or work colleagues and you ask them to keep reminding you weekly. You will be amazed how well this works.
Find a fitness professional or fitness organisation
There are many articles that write about what exercise to do or what nutrition you need to take, but when it comes down to actual results you need help. You need a coach that motivates you – a person that picks you up when you are down. A coach will create a program for you so that you actually reach your fitness goal by your wedding day, so find someone you’re comfortable with. Ask for referrals. You know that you’re in great hands when a coach is listening instead of talking, and when nutrition is a important element in your program design. You also know you’ve got a good coach when it’s all about you, and not about how fit or strong your coach is.
In the jungle of carb cycling, calorie counting and all kinds of revolutionary new diets, it can be hard to find what works for you. Nutrition is equally as important as regular exercising to get you in shape for your wedding photos, and a good coach can help you with this.
The advice that we always give to our clients is to apply the 80-20 rule. 20% of your effort you put in your exercise, and 80% of your time you are busy with what types of food to buy and how you prepare it. Here are some of our nutrition guidelines:
- Drink at least 3 litres of water a day
- Don’t buy canned or processed food
- Try to minimize bread, pasta , rice and potatoes
- Eat all the colors of fresh fruit and vegetables daily
- Eat quinoa and sweet potato, spelt bread and two times a week fish
By following rules like this, you’re well on your way to a healthy lifestyle and amazing wedding photos!
Exercise three times a week
When you have the points mentioned above dialled in, it’s time to do the hard work. Go to your personal training sessions or group training sessions. Sweat, curse, laugh and cry. Keep on going even when you don’t feel like it. The road will be hard, but the journey will be life changing. We promise you that by week 3 you will look and feel different, and that alone will make you keep on going.
